As the ex-president of a tiny East European country – Estonia – once nicely put it: the Earth is suffering from a disease called Man who emits CO2 and causes global warming and climate change. For sure she is not the only visionary sharing such belief in today's world. We are witnessing an increasing group of true believers emerge who have decided to tackle this disease, whatever it takes. Even scientists are involved showing us how exhaled human breath can contain small, elevated concentrations of greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming.
So what is to be done? For sure, they have already tried a lot. Every year they fly to a number of conferences, be it the COP or Davos gathering or something else, to discuss how to best fight the disease. But that is not all. It would not be effective if they did not come back from those gatherings and tried to implement disease-tackling ideas they just heard – e.g. creating new taxes, banning gas stoves, restricting people's movement, etc. They are trying their best, but is it enough? Maybe it would be best to try and think outside the box? Canada might be a role model as such. They have a state program called 'medical assistance in dying'. You can apply if you meet the eligibility criteria one of which is that you 'have a grievous and irremediable medical condition'. But what if you are a disease, what is the qualifying ‘condition’? So, maybe the next climate conference should be held in Canada so that the program can be studied more closely? Maybe even tried out by some true believers?
I suggest they all be dropped by parachute on the North Pole. Wait long enough, then no one needs to be picked up again. Since they think there are too many people on the planet, let us start with eliminating those that say so
