Tinge of Humor: “They'll find it!”
It doesn’t matter whether you label it 'hate speech', 'misinformation', 'disinformation' or some other thing – these words have all become tools to censor free speech.
The problem with censorship is huge and it’s getting worse. “This abuse of these terms has resulted in the censorship of ordinary people, journalists, and dissidents in countries all over the world,” the authors of the Westminster Declaration, published on October 18, write. They are spot on describing the path this kind of censorship leads to: “In the course of human history, attacks on free speech have been a precursor to attacks on all other liberties. Regimes that eroded free speech have always inevitably weakened and damaged other core democratic structures. In the same fashion, the elites that push for censorship today are also undermining democracy.”
We have repeatedly written about the problematic state of the freedom of expression in various countries. You can read our articles on the situation in Germany, France, Norway, and Finland. Here, you can read about how the UN wants to take action against 'misinformation' related to climate change. Last week, the Supreme Court of the United States decided it would hear the case Missouri vs Biden about the US government censoring truthful information on social media platforms. We have written about the case here. We have also previously published a 2-part extensive analysis of how censorship has exploded in recent years (Part 1 and Part 2).
