The earth was formed around 4.8 billion years ago. Primitive life forms came into existence around 4 billion years ago in the oceans using heat from hot volcanic gas emissions from the mantle as their energy source. This is still taking place in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Since then climate and life have been co-evolving, so that we now have plants and animals existing in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship, whereby animals breathe out CO2 and plants absorb CO2 through their leaf stomata using photosynthesis to combine CO2 and H2O molecules to produce carbohydrates and proteins, that are the basic food for animals.
Ice Ages Over the past million years there have been three ice ages. The last one ended around 15,000 years ago, when New York was covered in a mile high ice sheet-glacier. So what caused this warming in the higher latitudes ? One major factor is the earth’s axis tilt relative to the plane of the earth’s orbit around the sun, that varies from 22.1 to 24.5 degrees to the vertical in a 40,000 year cycle. Currently the tilt is at 23.5 degrees and decreasing, so that the winter months in the northern hemisphere now experience longer daylight hours to warm the ocean.
The earth’s axis tilt is what causes the seasonal transition from winter > spring > summer > fall every year. Average winter to summer temperature variation can be up to 100 deg F in the higher latitudes. The temperatures within the the equatorial region remains relatively constant by comparison. The diurnal temperature range from day to night can vary from 100 deg F in the Sahara Desert, but is about 20 deg F in New York. By comparison the average temperature increase of 1.5 deg F over the past 100 years is of no real consequence.
Ice core drilling in the Antarctic using analysis of trapped gas bubbles in the ice at different depths i.e. back in time, show that warming precedes CO2 increases.
As a matter of interest the southern hemisphere is on average 4 deg C cooler that the northern hemisphere, since Antarctica is a land mass of 5.5 million square miles in size, and thick ice covers about 98 percent of the land, whereas the Arctic consists of ice floating on water.
Global Warming
No one is contesting that the earth's biosphere has been in a slight overall warming trend for the past 20,000 years or so since the ending of the last ice age. We are now in an interglacial period. What is in dispute is its cause. Any gas in the atmosphere, whether CO2 or water vapor, absorbs a small fraction of the total electromagnetic radiation emanating from the sun, but they also simultaneously reflect it back in all directions including into space albeit at a longer wavelength, especially at night. Nitrogen at 78%, Oxygen at 23%, 0.9 % Argon, and 0.1% other gases are also warmed by conduction and convection from the earth’s surface. Warm air expands, thus lowering its density causing an increase in altitude, where it loses about 1 degree C every 1,000 feet, called the temperature lapse rate. Air contains on average 3% of water vapor, that can then condense back to liquid water droplets and/or ice particles depending on altitude to cooled forming clouds, that on average cover 51% of the planet to reflect radiation from the sun back into space during the day, and act as an insulator at night, when they reflect longer wave radiation from the earth back down to the surface. This is what moderates the diurnal temperature highs and lows we experience. On clear days the temperature difference can be up to 100 deg F and on cloudy days maybe 50 deg F. An average temperature increase over the past 100 years of 1.5 deg F is therefore somewhat inconsequential. It is only computer modeling that predicts runaway temperature rise and they are used to frighten people.
Any correlation of temperature with CO2 does not tell us which is the cause and which one is the effect. CO2 does in fact have a very minor effect, since the temperature relationship is asymptotic. Thus even though the CO2 content of the gas atmosphere has doubled, the rise in temperature has been relatively insignificant.
Without the oceans, the earth would have the same climate as the moon: +250 deg F on the dayside and -270 deg F on the nightside i.e. close to absolute zero.
Carbon Dioxide
A mere 0.04% of CO2 in the gas atmosphere cannot possibly be the driver of the earth's climate, although it is essential for the existence of plant life via photosynthesis. It is the oceans and clouds acting as feedback mechanisms that absorb and then reflect the sun's rays back into space during the night to achieve a heat balance that averages about 57 deg F.
Life is far more diverse and abundant in the equatorial regions than the cooler higher latitudes, where crop yields have never been higher than the present.
It is only computer models that predict out of control warming of the planet; there is no empirical evidence to validate this false assertion. Warming precedes CO2 increases, since CO2 is less soluble in warmer water, and as the oceans warm CO2 comes out of solution into the gas atmosphere. This has been confirmed by the Vostok ice core drilling in the Antarctic using gas analysis of the trapped air bubbles in the ice cores at different depths that represent time.
The Co-Evolution of Climate and Life
Climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon that has been occurring since life began on earth around 4 billion years ago, and there is nothing that humans can do about it. I wish these climate alarmists would stop with their ridiculous austerity agenda using only computer models to predict runaway warming as if CO2 was the culprit, while ignoring the empirical evidence of feed back loops involving the oceans and cloud formation, that have kept the earth within a fairly narrow temperature range conducive to life for aeons. Without CO2 in the atmosphere all life would die off, since photosynthesis by plants would not then be possible.
Electromagnetic Radiation from the Sun
The surfaces of the land masses are heated directly by incoming solar radiation to a depth of maybe a few centimeters, and the the oceans to a depth of meter or so, that has a much higher specific heat than say soil or rock, meaning it takes far more energy to heat a pound of water than a pound of sand. The oceans act as a giant heat sink to mitigate temperature extremes by means of circulating currents that can take over a thousand years to complete a cycle. At depth the oceans are very close to water’s freezing point of 32 deg F. 91% of solar radiation passes through the gas atmosphere, but does not significantly heat it. Heating of the air comes about due to conduction and convection from the earth's surface. As the air is heated it expands and therefore is less dense, therefore increases in altitude carrying its heat energy with it. If you expand a gas it cools, since being less dense, its molecules are further apart, undergoing fewer collisions that we experience as heat on our skin.
You can illustrate this by sitting in the sun on a partly cloudy day. When the sun is not obscured by a cloud, you can feel the radiation of the sun striking your skin. As soon as a cloud comes by, the sensation of heat comes to an abrupt end, but the air temperature has not changed.
The Real Cause of Warming
For the past ten years the earth's atmospheric average temperature as measured by orbiting satellites has not increased at all, despite significant increases in CO2 levels now at 0.04%
Global warming since the ending of the last ice age 20,000 years ago was not caused by increases in CO2 levels. Ice core drilling in the Antarctic demonstrates that warming precedes CO2 increases. This is because CO2 is less soluble in warmer water.
Mankind can do nothing about the Milankovitch cycles - the earth's axis tilt that varies from 22.1 to 24.5 degrees to the plane of rotation around the sun in a 40,000 year cycle, and the earth's slightly eccentric orbit and its precession. More water vapor in the gas atmosphere leads to the formation of clouds consisting of water droplets or ice particles, depending on their altitude, that reflect the sun's incoming radiation back into space - a cooling feedback mechanism. The higher latitudes of the earth's surface have indeed warmed by about 1.5 deg F since the Maunder minimum - the prolonged sunspot minimum around 1645 to 1715 during which sunspots became exceedingly rare, as was then noted by solar observers.
The Benefits of Warming
Life is far more abundant and diverse in the earth's equatorial regions than the higher, colder latitudes. Climate alarmism is another hoax.

Increased levels of CO2 currently at 0.04% in the gas atmosphere also enhance plant growth by photosynthesis. The earth is warmed by the electromagnetic radiation from the sun during the day, and loses heat to space by the same mechanism at night. The earth is not a greenhouse, it’s atmosphere is open to outer space that has a temperature of minus 270 deg F.

The earth was formed around 4.8 billion years ago. Primitive life forms came into existence around 4 billion years ago in the oceans using heat from hot volcanic gas emissions from the mantle as their energy source. This is still taking place in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Since then climate and life have been co-evolving, so that we now have plants and animals existing in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship, whereby animals breathe out CO2 and plants absorb CO2 through their leaf stomata using photosynthesis to combine CO2 and H2O molecules to produce carbohydrates and proteins, that are the basic food for animals.
Ice Ages Over the past million years there have been three ice ages. The last one ended around 15,000 years ago, when New York was covered in a mile high ice sheet-glacier. So what caused this warming in the higher latitudes ? One major factor is the earth’s axis tilt relative to the plane of the earth’s orbit around the sun, that varies from 22.1 to 24.5 degrees to the vertical in a 40,000 year cycle. Currently the tilt is at 23.5 degrees and decreasing, so that the winter months in the northern hemisphere now experience longer daylight hours to warm the ocean.
The earth’s axis tilt is what causes the seasonal transition from winter > spring > summer > fall every year. Average winter to summer temperature variation can be up to 100 deg F in the higher latitudes. The temperatures within the the equatorial region remains relatively constant by comparison. The diurnal temperature range from day to night can vary from 100 deg F in the Sahara Desert, but is about 20 deg F in New York. By comparison the average temperature increase of 1.5 deg F over the past 100 years is of no real consequence.
Ice core drilling in the Antarctic using analysis of trapped gas bubbles in the ice at different depths i.e. back in time, show that warming precedes CO2 increases.
As a matter of interest the southern hemisphere is on average 4 deg C cooler that the northern hemisphere, since Antarctica is a land mass of 5.5 million square miles in size, and thick ice covers about 98 percent of the land, whereas the Arctic consists of ice floating on water.
Global Warming
No one is contesting that the earth's biosphere has been in a slight overall warming trend for the past 20,000 years or so since the ending of the last ice age. We are now in an interglacial period. What is in dispute is its cause. Any gas in the atmosphere, whether CO2 or water vapor, absorbs a small fraction of the total electromagnetic radiation emanating from the sun, but they also simultaneously reflect it back in all directions including into space albeit at a longer wavelength, especially at night. Nitrogen at 78%, Oxygen at 23%, 0.9 % Argon, and 0.1% other gases are also warmed by conduction and convection from the earth’s surface. Warm air expands, thus lowering its density causing an increase in altitude, where it loses about 1 degree C every 1,000 feet, called the temperature lapse rate. Air contains on average 3% of water vapor, that can then condense back to liquid water droplets and/or ice particles depending on altitude to cooled forming clouds, that on average cover 51% of the planet to reflect radiation from the sun back into space during the day, and act as an insulator at night, when they reflect longer wave radiation from the earth back down to the surface. This is what moderates the diurnal temperature highs and lows we experience. On clear days the temperature difference can be up to 100 deg F and on cloudy days maybe 50 deg F. An average temperature increase over the past 100 years of 1.5 deg F is therefore somewhat inconsequential. It is only computer modeling that predicts runaway temperature rise and they are used to frighten people.
Any correlation of temperature with CO2 does not tell us which is the cause and which one is the effect. CO2 does in fact have a very minor effect, since the temperature relationship is asymptotic. Thus even though the CO2 content of the gas atmosphere has doubled, the rise in temperature has been relatively insignificant.
Without the oceans, the earth would have the same climate as the moon: +250 deg F on the dayside and -270 deg F on the nightside i.e. close to absolute zero.
Carbon Dioxide
A mere 0.04% of CO2 in the gas atmosphere cannot possibly be the driver of the earth's climate, although it is essential for the existence of plant life via photosynthesis. It is the oceans and clouds acting as feedback mechanisms that absorb and then reflect the sun's rays back into space during the night to achieve a heat balance that averages about 57 deg F.
Life is far more diverse and abundant in the equatorial regions than the cooler higher latitudes, where crop yields have never been higher than the present.
It is only computer models that predict out of control warming of the planet; there is no empirical evidence to validate this false assertion. Warming precedes CO2 increases, since CO2 is less soluble in warmer water, and as the oceans warm CO2 comes out of solution into the gas atmosphere. This has been confirmed by the Vostok ice core drilling in the Antarctic using gas analysis of the trapped air bubbles in the ice cores at different depths that represent time.
The Co-Evolution of Climate and Life
Climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon that has been occurring since life began on earth around 4 billion years ago, and there is nothing that humans can do about it. I wish these climate alarmists would stop with their ridiculous austerity agenda using only computer models to predict runaway warming as if CO2 was the culprit, while ignoring the empirical evidence of feed back loops involving the oceans and cloud formation, that have kept the earth within a fairly narrow temperature range conducive to life for aeons. Without CO2 in the atmosphere all life would die off, since photosynthesis by plants would not then be possible.
Electromagnetic Radiation from the Sun
The surfaces of the land masses are heated directly by incoming solar radiation to a depth of maybe a few centimeters, and the the oceans to a depth of meter or so, that has a much higher specific heat than say soil or rock, meaning it takes far more energy to heat a pound of water than a pound of sand. The oceans act as a giant heat sink to mitigate temperature extremes by means of circulating currents that can take over a thousand years to complete a cycle. At depth the oceans are very close to water’s freezing point of 32 deg F. 91% of solar radiation passes through the gas atmosphere, but does not significantly heat it. Heating of the air comes about due to conduction and convection from the earth's surface. As the air is heated it expands and therefore is less dense, therefore increases in altitude carrying its heat energy with it. If you expand a gas it cools, since being less dense, its molecules are further apart, undergoing fewer collisions that we experience as heat on our skin.
You can illustrate this by sitting in the sun on a partly cloudy day. When the sun is not obscured by a cloud, you can feel the radiation of the sun striking your skin. As soon as a cloud comes by, the sensation of heat comes to an abrupt end, but the air temperature has not changed.
The Real Cause of Warming
For the past ten years the earth's atmospheric average temperature as measured by orbiting satellites has not increased at all, despite significant increases in CO2 levels now at 0.04%
Global warming since the ending of the last ice age 20,000 years ago was not caused by increases in CO2 levels. Ice core drilling in the Antarctic demonstrates that warming precedes CO2 increases. This is because CO2 is less soluble in warmer water.
Mankind can do nothing about the Milankovitch cycles - the earth's axis tilt that varies from 22.1 to 24.5 degrees to the plane of rotation around the sun in a 40,000 year cycle, and the earth's slightly eccentric orbit and its precession. More water vapor in the gas atmosphere leads to the formation of clouds consisting of water droplets or ice particles, depending on their altitude, that reflect the sun's incoming radiation back into space - a cooling feedback mechanism. The higher latitudes of the earth's surface have indeed warmed by about 1.5 deg F since the Maunder minimum - the prolonged sunspot minimum around 1645 to 1715 during which sunspots became exceedingly rare, as was then noted by solar observers.
The Benefits of Warming
Life is far more abundant and diverse in the earth's equatorial regions than the higher, colder latitudes. Climate alarmism is another hoax.
